NEXTT Disability and Mental Health Services have opened a new office in Coffs Harbour to provide ongoing support and care services in the region.

The new offices are located at 1/129 West High Street, the centre has office space for ten staff, but also has two independent spaces available for booking by local independent service providers to make use of for free (or for a donation) to connect with clients in a modern and supported environment.

Regional Manager for Coffs Harbour Sharon Philp described the role of the offices, “We see this as being a community hub that will help facilitate finding supports for people and help in filling support gaps, particularly in mental health. We want to reach out to local providers to assist them in their roles.”

The region covers from Byron Bay to Taree and out to Wee Waa, and Nextt offers outreach visits as well as support via technology.

CEO Mark Mulder defined the goals of the organisation as, “Enabling people to get more out of life in a measurable way, and we measure to assess outcomes from the client’s point of view.”

NEXTT client Sean Walsh said, “Before I was with Nextt I was having trouble with everyday life and just kept to myself, with the help of my support workers, I am able to leave the house and I’m starting to be more confident.”

One of the services that Nextt would like to bring to Coffs Harbour is their Supported Independent Living program, offering careful placement for people with mental health needs in independent residential situations that encourage personal growth and happiness.

This program is based on the model Nextt has developed and implemented successfully in Sydney and interstate, although current housing shortages are impacting on finding suitable residences.
