A BRAND new jetty for Tea Gardens is coming, with MidCoast Council asking boaties and locals to review and comment on the concept plans for the new facility before Friday 16 April.

“We’ll be on site at Apex Park from 1pm to 3pm on Wednesday 7 April to discuss the concept plans with boat ramp and jetty users,” said Council’s Manager of Community Spaces, Recreation and Trades, Dan Aldridge.

“Anyone with an interest in the project, or who would like to provide feedback, is welcome to drop in and discuss with us.”

The existing jetty and pontoon is aged and requires extensive repairs, with split bearers, worn decking, and corroded connections and bracing.

Rather than continue with an aged traditional wood structure requiring regular maintenance, it has been decided to install two floating jetty structures, either side of the boat ramp, which will expand the use of the jetty, require less maintenance over the years and be a safer facility than the current structure.

“Thanks to funding of $330,000 from NSW Boating Now and contribution of a further $40,000 from Council funds, the first structure, on the western side of the boat ramp can be built,” said Dan Aldridge.

A future plan to duplicate the floating structure on the eastern side of the jetty when funding becomes available, will provide an expanded facility to accommodate more boat traffic and allow for short term mooring.

“Concept plans have been developed and we’re asking the community for feedback on the plans and the facility in general to ensure we can deliver the best possible facility with the funding available,” added Dan.

The timing of the consultation covers the busy Easter and school holidays, to allow visitors who use the existing facility to also provide their feedback on the concept plans.

Council will also hold a workshop for key stakeholder groups in Tea Gardens on Wednesday 7 April.
