A MULTICULTURAL Surf Awareness Day was held on Saturday 27 February at Jetty Beach to educate migrant communities and refugees living on the Coffs Coast about surf safety. Attendees from migrant and refugee backgrounds were taught about the significance of the red and yellow flags, patrolled beaches in the local area, general surf safety and how to enjoy the beach safely. They were given the opportunity to swim in the water, have a surf, talk and mingle with local lifeguards, lifesavers and police officers, and gain invaluable knowledge about beach safety while having fun. The event was a collaboration of support agencies including Coffs Harbour City Council lifeguards, Surf Lifesaving NSW, Aquatic Tutoring Australia, Settlement Services International and North Coast Settlement Services, and the Coffs-Clarence Police District.
