Bill Leak cartoon

THE National Cartoon Gallery is a world class gallery showing the work of many of Australia’s best cartoonists.

The two current exhibitions give visitors a feast of talent.

In the original Bunker Gallery, we have the finalists of the 32nd National Rotary Cartoon Awards.

This is the biggest cartooning competition in Australia, and it gives visitors a great satirical tour of the big events of 2020.

The cream of our country’s cartooning talent is shown on the gallery walls.

In the new upstairs gallery visitors will see 160 works of one of Australia’s greatest cartoonists, Bill Leak, who died last year.

The exhibition covers over 30 years of current affairs and political cartooning as well as some original caricatures of famous people.

Bill’s son, Johannes, the Australian Newspaper’s current political cartoonist, has also contributed some of his more topical cartoons

As well as cartoons, there are some videos featuring Bill Leak being both serious and outlandish, which give an insight into this talented and controversial artist.

Our exhibitions change every 2-3 months, so there’s always something new to see.
