Artful Recovery workshops commence to help youths through COVID recovery

Artful Recovery workshops commenced this week to help Coffs Harbour youths express how they’ve recovered from the ups and downs of the past year.

AN Artful Recovery Group has been created to encourage young people aged between twelve and 25 to express their feelings and actions through art.

The group commenced on Thursday 25 February and sees art workshops run to allow youths to express their feelings and actions during the local region’s tragic bushfires and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The person-centred facilitation will allow young people to express themselves and be acknowledged for the disaster that they endured.

Using art as a tool to help youths release their feelings around these unprecedented times can be beneficial to their mental health.

The artworks created will also allow youths an opportunity to discuss their feelings and the situations they have been through with others, and to reflect on how they have coped and learn from the experiences of other youths.

Working towards an exhibition at the end of 2021, works created will include a combination of self portraits using pastels, oil pastels, pencils, diorama and collage.

The new art workshops are being run by Headspace Coffs Harbour and will be held from 4pm to 5pm on a Thursday from 25 February.

Youths interested in making a booking to attend the art workshops can email HCH@genhealth.org.au, phone 6652 1878 or call in to the reception area at Headspace Coffs Harbour.
