The entire community is invited to celebrate the ANZAC Centenary Services planned in Karuah.

Remembrances will begin with a commemorative dinner dance on Saturday 18 April at the Karuah and District RSL Club.

“The night will give the community an opportunity to get together to remember the deeds of those who went to WWI,”  secretary of the Karuah RSL Sub Branch, Barrie French said.

There will be a short commemorative service during the night, a live band and songs played from the WWI era.

WWII veteran and retired high court judge Harry Bell will also appear as guest speaker at the event.

“Come along as a family to remember your relatives,” Mr French said.

A booklet, detailing WWI veterans for Karuah will be distributed on the evening.

“It has taken more than a year for the historical society to research and put together the book,” Mr French said.

On ANZAC Day the dawn service march will start at 5.50am from outside Tony King’s garage on the Old Pacific Highway then proceed along the Pacific Highway for the service in Memorial Park at 6am.

After the service, breakfast will be served in the Karuah RSL Club.

At 9.00am a Memorial Service will be held at the Memorial Wall adjacent to the club entrance.

Participants in the march are reminded that medals of deceased family members are worn on the right hand side.

If any organisation or individual intends to place a wreath at either Service, could they please contact the Sub Branch Secretary, Barrie French on 0408 449 256 to have their name included on the tribute list.

Tickets for the commemorative dinner dance are available from the club.

“With this year being the ANZAC Centenary, participation at the Services is expected to be very high,” Mr French said.
