COFFS Harbour and Sawtell Girl Guides are returning to their usual programme after they had to restrict gatherings last year due to COVID-19 and some of the activities went online.

The groups are set to hold an Open Day on Saturday February the thirteenth from 10am to 1pm where interested girls and young women can come and learn about girl guide activities and get a taste for some of the things planned for 2021.

Coffs Harbour Girl Guides runs three levels for participants the Pre-Junior Guides, Junior Guides, Guides and Senior Guides.

The Guide Hall is located at 209A Harbour Drive Coffs Harbour on the corner at the traffic lights east of Coles.

Ms Gibson said, “We had a quiet year in 2020 but after some work being completed at the Guide Hall we are ready for new challenges in 2021.

“We are ready for girls from five years to seventeen years to join us and find a place to grow.

“Our aim is to have lots of fun, hopefully make friends and have wonderful adventures.

“If this sounds good, come and have a go at Guides,” she said.

Girl Guides Coffs and Sawtell are just two districts that are part of the greater Girl Guides NSW which officially turns one hundred this year.

Recently twenty nine year old Emily Milton Smith was announced to become the 20th State Commissioner of Girl Guides NSW, ACT & NT at an official handover ceremony in May 2021.

The appointment coincides with the celebrations of a century of Guiding in NSW, and is illustrative of the Association’s commitment to its centenary theme, empowering future women.

State Commissioner Elect Emily Milton Smith said of the appointment, “Girl Guides empowers girls and young women to make a positive change in the community.

“It is a vibrant space where girls and young women develop confidence and build resilience to navigate their world. This has been at the heart of the Girl Guide movement for the last 100 years and our purpose burns bright for our next century.

“Every day, we shine a light on girls and young women as today’s leaders and tomorrow’s future.”
