Email us – media@newsofthearea.com.au Betty was recently selected in the over 60’s Australian Senior Jackaroo side to play against New Zealand in June this year, provided Covid-19 restrictions don’t interfere. Well known NSW and Australian player and coach, Steve Glasson has nicknamed the team the ‘Spring Chickens’. Betty has had an illustrious career representing Australia, Victoria and NSW on multiple occasions. She won a gold medal playing for Australia in the Pacific Games in Canada in 1992. Betty’s record is absolutely incredible, with not only the above performances but also winning Australian and State titles in pairs, triples and fours. Betty initially came from the Portland club in Victoria, where she was made a life member in 2009. She joined the Merrylands club in Sydney in 2005, where she was also successful in winning the club singles, triples and fours. After all this success, Betty moved to the Soldiers Point club on a full-time basis in 2019. Right now Betty is still on cloud nine after being chosen to represent her country again. A woman with a wonderful nature and temperament, Betty doesn’t need to brag about her achievements. She just lets the bowls do the talking. The old saying goes that behind every good man is a good woman. In this case, we have it in reverse. Brian, Betty’s husband, who himself is a very competent bowler, has followed her to all parts of both NSW and Victoria so she could play in various tournaments. Soldiers Point Bowling Club wishes Betty all the best for her June event and into the future. By Les RITCHIE
