LOCALS and visitors to the area are being called on to find and photograph sea slugs in the region for the third annual Coffs Coast Sea Slug Census which will be undertaken over three days from January 29-31 by the Solitary Islands Underwater Research Group (SURG).

Participants are invited to scour local coastal rock pools or dive in the ocean and photographically document the sea slug species calling the region home.

The images gathered during the Census will help marine scientists to update information about the diversity and distribution of this particular group of molluscs.

Introductory talks for the event will be held at Coffs Harbour’s National Marine Science Centre or via Zoom on the evening of Thursday 28 January.

Sea Slug Census Day One will occur on Friday 29 January, Day Two on Saturday 30 January and Day Three on Sunday 31 January.

Those interested in participating in the event can join the Sea Slug Census group on Facebook, which has been established to allow participants in the Sea Slug Census program to add images of their finds and view those made by others.
