IT’S been a season which has seen the defending premiers struggle for form and new contenders rise up to challenge for the throne.

The Coffs Harbour Cricket Association’s first grade season has reached its midway point as the competition takes a break over the Christmas/New Year period.

Here’s how the six teams have fared so far in season 2020/21.

Diggers Cricket Club Inc. (5 wins. 1 draw. 2 losses): The early frontrunners have been the standout club so far this season after winning their opening five games.

Diggers sit at the top of the ladder heading into the new year despite two straight losses in recent weeks.

Northern Districts Rebels (5 wins. 1 draw. 2 losses): The Rebels have proven to be genuine premiership contenders this season, which they definitely showed after becoming the first team to beat the ladder leading Diggers.

Nana Glen (3 wins. 3 draws. 2 losses): After two straight losses to start their season, Nana Glen have turned things around dramatically and have been the form team of the competition during the past month having won three matches in a row.

Coffs Colts (3 wins. 2 draws. 3 losses): After failing to make last season’s finals series, the Colts look a big chance to be a semi-finalist this campaign especially if they continue the form which saw them beat top-3 sides Diggers and Nana Glen.

Sawtell (2 wins. 3 draws. 3 losses): The defending premiers have struggled to reach the lofty heights they set last season in which they lost only once.

Sawtell find themselves in the unusual position of sitting near the bottom of the ladder, but you wouldn’t bet against this champion club to turn things around.

Valleys Cricket (2 draws. 6 losses): Has been a tough season for the second-year club as they still search for that elusive first win.
