Kate Washington member for Port Stephens, told News Of The Area, “Finally! It’s 2021! 2020 was a year that no-one will forget – nor should we.

“We learned to appreciate simple things like seeing friends and walking on the beach.

‘We also learned to work together as a community which will serve us well in the face of challenges in the future.

“Let’s take strength from 2020’s successes to walk carefully and confidently together towards a healthy and happy 2021.

“Happy New Year Port Stephens!,” she said.

Some of us have focused on our work and many of us have needed to work on our wellbeing.

Kerri Rodley Positive Psychology and Wellbeing Practitioner said “After a year where we have been kept indoors separated from loved ones, make 2021 a year that you spend outdoors in nature with friends and family.

“Connection with others is essential for humans to thrive and being in nature reduces stress and increases physical wellbeing. Win win!,”

My hope for 2021 is that we can carry this wonderful community spirit, which Port Stephens is known for, through with us.

“I wish you all a safe and happy New Year,” she said.

Port Stephens Mayor Ryam Palmer said, “As we come to the end of another year — a year like no other — it’s a great time to look back.

“2020 has been a challenge to say the least, with the COVID-19 pandemic impacting us all in so many ways.

“Despite this, I’m proud that we’ve managed to keep our community spirit alive and well.

“A great example of this is the Have A Yarn project, which saw hundreds of people contributing to beautiful knitted artworks which now decorate our communities,” he said.
