The World Health Organisation tells us that the United States Of America has 13,234,551 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 264,808 deaths. The United Kingdom has had 1,629,661 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 58,448 deaths. While Australia implemented a strong response resulting in only 27,904 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 908 deaths. All this in 2020, a year that has re-written life. With Victoria now celebrating suppressing the virus and double donut days being achieved in most states things are starting to relax. The borders are opening and as a community we are ready to move forward in our new COVID-19 safe way. It is the relaxation of restrictions teamed with our communities confidence in our health system which is seeing many older people out and about once more. Probus Clubs exist to support older people to stay connected to their communities and to create opportunities for fun and fellowship. Members of the Fingal Bay Probus Club recently enjoyed a beautiful barbeque, allowing members to connect face to face once more. Julia Redlich of the Fingal Bay Probus Club told News Of The Area, “When you ask locals about the best local barbecue site, a host of suggestions appear. “One of the favourites for the Probus Club of Fingal Bay is Pearson Park at Soldiers Point.” Pearsons Park offers wide open parklands, facilities, with heaps of parking and wonderful views across Port Stephens to the Tilligerry Peninsula. “At a recent get-together there we also welcomed two about-to-be full members, Ross and Ilona Ferrier,” she said. The fun and friendship that is the key to Probus was present, and with regular meetings now in place, fingers are crossed that this will continue. The club’s monthly meetings take place on the second Monday in November, at 9.30am at the Fingal Bay Sports & Recreation Club, 100 Rocky Point Road, Fingal Bay. Club activities have been modified to meet COVID-19 regulations. Anyone interested in joining the club is more than welcome to call 4984 9147 to find out about this active group of retirees.
