Email us – media@newsofthearea.com.au Corey dominated from the opening bell as the powerful welterweight put on a masterclass in striking against a bewildered Boston ‘Boss Hog’ Caines in front of a packed house. A perfectly timed left jab followed up with a powerful right hook had the crowd and huge YouTube audience on their feet in a 23 second knockout. The former Coffs Harbour Jetty High student gave News Of The Area an insight into his training regime for the fight. “I normally train five days a week but for an MMA fight I step up the training to twice a day and six times a week. “My training varies between physical conditioning, striking and grappling, it’s grappling which is the most technical and where I spend most time with my coach Chris Hellback.“ Standing six feet tall and full of muscles Lynch chuckled when we cross checked if he actually was a 77 kilo welterweight. “Ha, I’m normally 87 kilos but I go on a strict diet when in camp,” he said. “For this fight I got down to 80.5 kilos and then lost a further 3.5 kilos before the weigh in. “Basically the last 3.5 kilos is just water, on the day of the weigh in I don’t drink any fluids or eat any food, then I sit in a sauna to sweat out more fluids to reach my fighting weight. “Once the weigh in is over I replace all the lost fluids and have 30 hours before the fight to rehydrate. “All fighters have to lose weight before a fight otherwise you’ll be up against someone with a much bigger frame, that’s just the reality of the sport.” Head Coach of C4 Brazilian Jiu Jitsu & Mixed Martial Arts, Chris Wellback was full of praise for his student after the win. “He started training with us at the age of 16 and his dedication and ability to learn has been rewarded with success. “There’s so many things to learn about the art of MMA and Jiu Jitsu and it can take a lifetime to learn,” he said.
