Official opening of Tea Gardens Men’s Shed

Up to 200 people turned out for the official opening of Tea Gardens Hawks Nest Men’s Shed last Monday.

Men’s shed president Ian Robinson said the opening held at their shed in Tea Gardens Industrial Estate was  “absolutely fabulous”.

“Lots of other men’s sheds came along and the two state members Kate Washington and Ken Jordan spoke really well and so did Len Roberts,” he said.

“It was just a really good day and the blokes all really enjoyed it.

Great Lakes deputy mayor Len Roberts said it was wonderful to see such a large number of people take part in the opening.

“I just want to congratulate everybody,” he said.

“It was an incredible honour that the mayor asked me to officially open the men’s shed.”

Cr Roberts said the Great Lakes Council had been very supportive of the initiative right from the beginning.

“I remember standing at the old tip shop thinking ‘wouldn’t this be a great site for the men’s shed. Now it’s a reality, a dream come true.”

Mr Robinson said membership had bumped up by about 10 men in the past fortnight surrounding the official opening of the shed.

Men’s Sheds are an Australian-wide initiative, giving men an outlet to work on meaningful projects at their own pace in the company of others.

Tea Gardens Hawks Nest Men’s Shed operates Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 8:30am until 2pm and anyone interested in joining is invited to pop by for a look around and a chat.

Joining costs $10 and an annual membership is just $20.
