Many retirees have flocked to regional areas like Port Stephens during the pandemic, with Downsizing.com.au noting the popularity of the area is largely in relation to an increased perception of safety.

Over the next 25 years, the population of New South Wales is expected to rise, with older Australians leading the trend and opting for a coastal retirement.

Sydney-siders Gale and Stephen Reed are the proud new owners of Latitude One’s 200th home to settle, having downsized from their Marayong home of 35 years, they now live in their dream retirement location.

“We have friends who had been living in this community for a couple of years and when we came to visit it just felt so peaceful, quiet and relaxed – we knew the community atmosphere would suit us perfectly.

“We had been looking to downsize to get away from the hustle and bustle of city living and Latitude One seemed like the obvious choice, we have the ability to really enjoy our retirement in our own way.

“The idea of a social and friendly community was a big drawcard for us. We’ve made such great connections here and it’s been lovely meeting up with our neighbours in the clubhouse, the amenities are pretty fantastic.

“Especially while we have to be so careful about where we travel, the location has been ideal.

“We’ve got such great access to everything that Port Stephens has to offer and we’re really looking forward to living out our retirement here.”

The median price for a three-bedroom home in the local Nelson Bay area sits at $642,5003 while downsizers can purchase their home at Ingenia Lifestyle from just $499,000, making this retirement option popular amongst downsizers.

The 270-home Latitude One community has seen a rapid increase in interest, with 90 percent of houses already sold out and with less than 20 homes remaining to be released. Latitude One Project Sales Manager Sheree Richardson said she was excited to have reached such a significant milestone.

“I’m thrilled to welcome Mr and Mrs Reed to the community as our 200th homeowners, they’ll be welcomed with open arms by everyone in the community.

“It’s not hard to imagine what drew them to this part of the world, Port Stephens is a pretty special place to retire too.”

  1. Email above stated that there is less than 20 homes left, is this correct and is there going to be a new stage developed.
I continue looking at news on Latitude One, but until today this is the first of any mention what is happening.

We were there in November 2020 and have had no emails etc about the next stage. We are very keen to be contacted for future developments.
    Cheers
