THERE wasn’t much sport on over the long weekend apart from bumper cars in Port Stephens, but one little girl from the Port Power U11’s came away with the top prize raising $3,000 by shaving her head for the Leukaemia Foundation.

Jayda McKenny from the Port Stephens Power Youth Girls U11’s went above and beyond for her chosen cause to simply help people doing it tougher than her.

Port Power spokesperson Josie Johnson said that the young girls of the club continue to show an amazing community spirit that’s built around supporting others.

“Jayda chose to shave her head to help people,” said Josie.

“She didn’t know anyone in particular that has leukaemia, but she knew that it was something she could do to help others.
“She raised $3,000 for her efforts which is inspiring and amazing!”

It’s been a humbling year for the Youth Girl U11’s on the pitch as they learn the game of AFL, but the fun and smiles haven’t stopped for the Medowie-based outfit.

After kicking their first goal of their young careers the team have been going from strength to strength on and off the pitch.

Young Jayda celebrated her birthday on Sunday and all she wanted to do was give to others instead of receiving gifts.

Looks like our futures are a little brighter with a young crew like Jayda around!
