Four charged after public order incident at Taree

Four people have been charged over a public order incident that followed a man being hit by a train at Taree last month.

About 4.30am (Sunday 21 December 2014), police from Manning/Great Lakes Local Area Command were called to Bushland Drive railway crossing in Taree, after reports a man had been struck by a train.

On arrival officers found an 18-year-old man on the tracks, with his legs severed. He was taken to John Hunter Hospital, but later died.

A crime scene was established and an investigation commenced.

Police will allege that while trying to treat the man a group of people threw rocks at police officers and the train driver.

It will also be alleged that the group blocked NSW Ambulance Paramedics, pushed and verbally abused the officers during their initial attempts to treat the teen. An ambulance vehicle was also allegedly damaged after being hit by rocks.

Today (Thursday 15 January 2015), four people have been charged, one man and woman and two teenage girls, in relation to the incident. The adults were given conditional bail to appear at Taree Local Court on Tuesday 24 February 2015. The juveniles will appear at a Children’s court on Tuesday 24 February 2015.

A 34-year-old man was charged with;

– Affray;

– Obstruction of and violence against ambulance officers;

– Malicious damage to ambulance;

– Five counts of assault police.

A 19-year-old woman was charged with;

– Affray;

– Obstruction of and violence against ambulance officers;

– Five counts of assault police.

A 17-year-old girl was charged with;

– Affray;

– Obstruction of an violence against ambulance officers;

– Malicious damage to train;

– Five counts of assault police.

A 14-year-old girl was charged;

– Affray;

– Obstruction of and violence against ambulance officers;

– Four counts of assault police.
