The unit received a request to assist the Dungog Unit with the rescue of a teenage boy from the Allyn River at Allynbrook.

The request to assist was due to the complexity and potential danger of the job.

The boy had been kayaking and whilst trying to retrieve his kayak from the water, lost his footing and was swept away.
He then became trapped by the compression against timber in the river.

The multi-agency Flood Rescue included Dungog, Singleton and Port Stephens SES alongside Fire Rescue Dungog, Dungog Police and Ambulance NSW.

The teen was freed by an SES Swiftwater Rescue technician, then hauled to safety by a combined rescue team.

Port Stephens Unit Commander, David Douglas, told News Of The Area, “The casualty was very cold when removed from the water and was treated by ambulance personnel on-site.”

“He was very lucky and is now safe”.

The current rain event has resulted in some local road closures and an increase in river flows.

The SES would like to remind everyone not to enter flood waters and to wear a life jacket whenever on or around water, it could save your life.

Another good reminder is to observe road and flooding signage and do not cross flooded roads or bridges.
