Bob was a member of the Lions Club of Tilligerry Peninsula Inc. with vision and sought to have an event whereby children could go outside for a weekend – free from phones and computers.

The competition started in 2015 with 30 children registering with $1,000 raised this has grown every year with last year 82 registered fishers attracting participants from just about every locale in the Hunter Region.

Joe Pfeifer told News Of The Area, “The response from the fishing fraternity exceeded our expectations and the Board of Directors have decided that we should continue with the program given the absence of major events in the Port Stephens area at that time of the year.”

“This year we are aiming to have over 100 children registered as well as raising over $6,000 for junior bodies,” he said.

All profits from the event are directed to local organization’s within the Tilligerry Peninsula. In past years the Marine Rescue group and the Lions Centenary Children’s Park at Tanilba Bay benefited from these proceeds.

Mr Pfeifer said, “In 2018 we decided that all future funds would go to designated junior sporting bodies in the peninsula, resulting in us donating $4,000.00 in 2018 and $5,000 in 2019 between Mallabulla Junior Rugby League, Tilligerry Little Athletics, Tilligerry Football Club Tilligerry Drop-In Centre for Hope and Tilligerry Stingrays.”

“This year in addition to the five junior sporting bodies above we will also be donating to the Tilligerry Junior Tennis Club,” he said.

The competition is scheduled for the weekend 11-12 January 2020.

Businesses in the Tilligerry Peninsula have rallied behind this event for 5 years as well as businesses throughout Port Stephens such as BCF, Tackle World, Terrace Boating, Imagine Cruises, Moonshadow Cruises and Port Stephens Toyota.

Every child that enters the event will win a prize this year thanks to our generous sponsors.
