Of a woman, giving birth in a stable, an event that happened thousands of years ago.

Yet so momentous is this story, that it is still celebrated around the world by billions of people every year.

The birth of our Lord Jesus Christ.

It has been heralded in carols throughout modern history.

This year Christmas will be celebrated at Carols By The Bay in Nelson Bay at Fly Point on 15 December from 5.30pm.

The event is delivered by the combined churches on the Peninsula and this year it is being lead by Spectrum Church.

Elly Webb the event organiser, of Carols by the Bay, from Spectrum Church, told News Of The Area, “This is a family friendly event, you can bring your own hamper or enjoy the food from the stalls that will be setup on site; there will be a great variety of food.”

Among the entertainment and activities available at the Carols are of course the fireworks at 9pm, performances by school groups, face painting, you can enjoy dressing up and taking pictures in the nativity stall and of course enjoy the visit from Santa Claus.

Last year the event saw some 5000 people in attendance to enjoy the Christmas entertainment and to celebrate the festive season.

This year thanks to a sponsorship from Salamander Bay Square every child attending the Carols will receive a gift.

“We are quite excited about Santa Claus and the Elves that will be at the Carols.”

The Carols at Fly Point has long been a community event, and the 2019 event will be no different with the Lions Club Of Soldiers Point, Rotary Club, and Action Club all participating alongside schools, and performing groups.

“We are looking forward to some amazing performances, and the fireworks which are scheduled for 9pm,” she said.

All fireworks displays are subject to the approval of the RFS, at the time of the event, due to prevailing weather conditions.

The Carols at the Bay is a family friendly event and Fly Point is an alcohol free zone.
