She also won a silver medal in the 100m hurdles at the 2008 Summer Olympics and the 2013 World Championships. As part of the Coles Little Athletes Big Dreams Program which is aiming to inspire the next generation of athletes Ms Pearson make a big impression on some of the little athletes within the area. Deidre Hall from Raymond Terrace Athletics Centre told News Of The Area, “Coles is the major sponsor of Little Athletics and has been proactive in providing exceptional support to all Centres through boxes of bananas each week for the season, a marquee, volunteer vests, table cloth, baskets, an insulated drink dispenser and equipment grants.” “We were fortunate to have received a Grant of $3500,” Ms Hall said. This recent Grant has enabled the Club to purchase a javelin trolley, new starting system, sand covers for the long jump pits and some training equipment. Still looking incredibly fit, Sally Pearson answered questions about her time as the best 100m hurdler in the world and Olympics. She confessed to eating as many as 4 bananas at breakfast and still eats a healthy diet. Ms Pearson said she enjoyed the many hours of training because she simply loved hurdling. Sally went out of her way to give the athletes and parents an unforgettable experience with everyone having a photo opportunity and even hurdling with the Under 8’s and joining in long jump with another group, before leaving she also took the time to mingle with athletes on the field during their events. Ms Hall siad, “Centre President David Summerville presented Sally with one of the Centre’s shirts which she graciously wore for the rest of the visit.” “It was a very special experience that will be remembered and talked about by the athletes and families for some time,” Ms Hall said.
