It is celebrated annually on 20 November and is UNICEF’s global day of action for children and led by children.

20 November is an important date and this year will mark the 60th anniversary of the adoption of the Convention of the Rights of the Child in 1959.

Ms Alisha Onslow, co-found of Climate Action Port Stephens told News Of The Area, “This year, Australian Parents for Climate Action, are holding a National Week of Action across the nation highlighting the rights of children to a safe climate.”

“They will be calling on the Australian government to act urgently to safeguard the future of children by taking immediate action to address the climate crisis.”

“UNICEF has highlighted the direct threat climate change has on the ability of children to survive grow, and thrive.”

Climate Action Port Stephens, is a community group of residents who are concerned about the global climate and ecological crisis.

They will be taking action with the Australian Parents for Climate Action on 20 November for World Children’s Day.

They will be meeting on the corner of William and Adelaide Streets, Raymond Terrace at 12noon.

Together, they will walk down William Street and gather at Riverside Park for a picnic and speeches.

The community is invited to attend.
