Suspected car surfer injured at Redhead

A teen has been taken to hospital after being injured while reportedly ‘car-surfing’ at Redhead this morning.

Police from Lake Macquarie Local Area Command were called to Redhead Beach about 1.45am (Sunday 16 November 2014), responding to reports a person had fallen from the roof of a Subaru Forester doing ‘burnouts’ in the surf club car park.

There were no vehicles or people in the car park when police arrived; however, officers began patrolling the area and came across an ambulance treating a 17-year-old youth in Cowlishaw Street. A Subaru Forester was parked nearby.

The teen, from Redhead, has been taken to John Hunter Hospital where he is being treated for neck and abdominal injuries. Police are told the injuries are not life-threatening.

Police have spoken with an 18-year-old man, from Adamstown, who was with the injured teen. They hope to speak with both people later today.

Investigators are appealing for witnesses to the incident to contact Charlestown Police or Crime Stoppers.
