Mr Palmer has been the Port Stephens Mayor since 2017.

He is a local to the area and is now married raising his two young children in Port Stephens too.

Prior to contesting the 2017 election, Mr Palmer was President of the Tomaree Business Chamber.

He was also General Manager of the Greater Bank in Nelson Bay and Salamander Bay.

For those who have seen him play tennis, it will come as no surprise that Mr Palmer was on the ATP Tennis professional circuit too.

Congratulations to this week’s award recipients :
Quade Cassar, Grahamstown Public School: For spending time cleaning up rubbish after the PBL launch at Boomerang Park. Thank you for ensuring our community is cared for.

Rachel Lilley, Karuah Public School: Rachel was nominated by a community member for her outstanding commitment to help raise money for the school/ The P&C had a stall at the Karuah Oyster festival on the weekend. Rachel spent her day helping out at the stall. Nothing is every too much trouble for Rachel, she is always offering to help out and is someone you can always depend upon.

Faith Watt, Hunter River High: Nominated for demonstrating her kindness, care, and maturity. Faith helped a distressed younger student who had got onto the wrong school bus. Faith got the bus driver to stop the bus and made sure that they younger student made it safely to the right bus.

Shakira Farnham O’Sullivan, Irrawang High School: Nominated for being an outstanding citizen of Irrawang High School by demonstrating our school values of respect, responsibility, and personal best.

Sophia Wright, Raymond Terrace Public School: For displaying the PBL qualities of responsibility and respect within the community by ensuring the school’s gardens and school grounds are environmentally cared for.

Sage Boucher, Medowie Public School: Sage used his pocket money to purchase new rollers for the school’s sandpit cover after noticing they were broken.

Luke Johnson, Irrawang Public School: For being a role model outside of school. Luke always obeys road rules, wears safety equipment and shows respect to others.

Jasmine, Salt Ash Public School: For looking after an injured bird that fell from a tree, nursing it until it arrived safely at WIRES. She always shows concern for animals and other students.

Isabelle Bacon, Seaham Public School: Isabelle is a great friend to others. During handball she can be heard encouraging other players with comments like ‘great show’ and ‘bad luck’. She is a great sport and a great friend.
