Port Stephens Power AFL Club now has two Swans Academy players in Madison Jewell and Joshua Bohan, with Madison being selected to start her first year in the academy in 2020.

Madison told News Of The Area, “Being in Swans Academy is a big step from club level, to me it means one step closer to fulfil my one big dream of playing in the AFLW competition.”

Hunter Sports Academy also has a programme running and after recent trials, Power players Nash Cameron and Rhys Hay were offered positions.

Rhys Hay, who has participated in the Hunter Academy previously, told News Of The Area, “I am looking forward to catching up with people I met last year and my team mates from last year as well as working on my skills over the off season.”

Both Academy programmes aim to build and maintain a strong AFL culture in NSW and the local regional areas and offer talented young AFL players the sporting pathways they require to play at the highest level.

The QBE Sydney Swans Academy program not only benefits all current AFL clubs, it also contributes to the long-term growth and strength of the code.

The Academies offer additional training sessions, athlete education, sports science and live-in camps under the guidance of experienced coaches and athletes.

With the ability and potential of many local AFL players from Port Stephens Power and Nelson Bay Marlins, the code is definitely entering into exciting times locally.
