All of these will be celebrated at the third annual Myall Master Open Water Swim in November.

The first Myall Masters Open Water Swim was held at Jimmys Beach on 29 October 2017.

Valerie Mobbs told News Of The Area, “Masters Swimming NSW were wanting to promote Masters Swimming in the Hunter and the Myall Masters Swimming Club suggested a way to do this was to hold an Open Water Swim at the beautiful Jimmys Beach.”

In 2017 there were two categories the 600 metre and the 1500 metre swim.

A total of 58 swimmers entered, with ages ranging from 20 to the oldest being 78 years old.

“The event was a great success with lots of the swimmers saying they would be back the following year they had enjoyed it so much.”

In 2018, the event was even more successful with 126 swimmers participating; 61 in the 600 metre event and 65 in the 1500 metres, with some swimmers participating in both races.

The youngest swimmer was aged 22 and the oldest an impressive 81 years young.

This years event will be held on 17 November and it’s looking like it will be bigger again.

“To date we have 30 entries in the 600 metres and 45 in the 1500 metres with online entries closing on 10 November.”

The swim is held within 20 metres of the shoreline and our local surf club provide water safety craft and personnel while the swimmers are in the water.

The cost of the swim is just $30.00 which gives you entry in both swims and is open to anyone over the age of 18years.

It is not a requirement to be a member of masters swimming to participate.

If getting into the thick of things isn’t for you the Myall Masters also makes a great spectator event.
