Scouts Australia provides fun youth development activities, building resilient and confident boys and girls aged five to 25.

Over the years Scouts has changed and now it is an organisation that supports both boys and girls.

Joey Scouts is for boys and girls aged five to seven, it’s all about discovery and excitement, and the program is now operating in Bulahdelah.

Joey Scouts are encouraged to express themselves creatively, through games, stories and craft activities.

From building monsters and spaceships from scrap items, to growing plants from seedlings and singing songs together, all Joey Scouts develop a strong sense of belonging and an understanding of the world around them.

Joey Scouts learn how to share and care, and help other people.

They also learn how to recognise native birds and animals, and develop an understanding of the impact of our modern world on the environment.

Some Joey Scouts might even get the chance to have their first sleepover with their Mob, an important and fun ‘first’ for developing independence.

A trained Joey Scout Leader guides a Joey Mob of up to 20 boys and girls.

Nicky Hammerl told News Of The Area, “It’s been five years since there has been a Joey’s Scouts in Bulahdelah.”

Bulahdelah has two volunteers who will be training as Joey Leaders; until that time Nicky Hammerl will be helping out as the Leader in Charge.

“Mercedes and Isla are the first Joeys to join the Joey Mob.

“We are seeking other children (boys and girls) up to 8 years to come along,” she said.

Joey Scouts is starting the first week of Term 4 on Tuesdays afternoons from 4:30-5:30pm at the Scout Hall on Stroud Street Bulahdelah.

Cubs for 8-11year olds is held on Mondays 6-7:30pm and Scouts for 11-15 year olds is held on Fridays 6-8pm are all running in Bulahdelah.
