The pots are the result of a co-operative arrangement with some artists from the Port Stephens Community Arts Centre and Salamander Bay Recycling Centre which has seen colourful nautical and nature themed artwork added. Margaret Wilkinson, who is a member of the Nelson Bay Civic Pride Group, told News Of The Area, “I was absolutely delighted when I collected the pots and saw the outstanding talents of the artists. “We just cannot thank Meryl Miller, Nada O’Loughlin, Jeannette Robertson, Judy Jones, Christine Leaming and Nikki Waters enough for what they have painted.” The Civic Pride gardening group is part of the Tomaree Business Chamber formed following the successful community working bee held in May last year. Volunteers from the community and local businesses have been assisting to improve the look of the township. When needed the shopkeepers who have sponsored gardens can be seen out watering and maintaining the gardens. This has helped to bring on the most colourful display of spring flowers we have seen in Nelson Bay for many years. “The compliments have come thick and fast and the handful of volunteers find the work most rewarding, even if it means an early rise to water before everyone else comes out for the day,” she said, The Civic Pride volunteers take care of some of the gardens not yet sponsored and Council kindly mulched all the gardens in time for the Love Seafood Festival Tastes at the Bay weekend. New volunteers are always welcome and need to first register during business hours at the Tomaree Business Chamber Office, Victoria Parade, upstairs, opposite the Visitors Centre. By Marian SAMPSON
