There has been an outstanding response to this new 2 day format with 65 professional golfers vying for the $22,500 prize money.

The response from amateur golfers to participate in the Pro-Am is equally pleasing with entrants from 26 golf clubs including Cape Schank, Moore Park, Mudgee, Riverside Oaks, Tamworth and Yamba together with many entrants from surrounding towns, as well as the many local golfers.

Club spokesperson, Dave Gilbert, said, “It was good to see so many people coming in to town for the 2 days which will provide a good boost to local businesses.”

The two days of competition offers a great opportunity for local residents from Tea Gardens and Hawks Nest to visit the Golf Club and see some good golfers and great golfing close up.

Mr Gilbert said, “Spectators were most welcome if they wished to follow groups around the course or just sit on the veranda and watch all the groups pass by the Clubhouse.”

“It is not often that we get an opportunity to see golfers of the calibre of Craig Parry, Peter Lonard, Andre Stolz, James Nitties, Callam O’Reilly and Leigh McKechnie right up close,” Mr Gilbert said.

The other major attraction and indeed a spectacle is the “Nearest the Pin Shootout” which will be held under lights on Saturday evening after the completion of the Pro-Am on Saturday.

Ray White Tea Gardens is sponsoring the “shoot-out” in which the professional golfers will compete for a total of $1,500 prizemoney in this novel event. Additionally, a number of amateur golfers will be drawn from the field each day to compete for $600 worth of prizes.

Mr Gilbert said, “That while the afternoon fields on both Friday and Saturday are now full, there were still a limited number of time slots available on both mornings. Golfers should contact the office or the Pro Shop during office hours – please phone 4997 0145.

Hawks Nest Golf Club once again wishes to express their appreciation to the naming rights sponsor Hawks Nest Beachside; gold sponsor Burtons Automotive; and silver sponsors: Ray White Tea Gardens, Tile Rescue, Palm Lake Resort, Yamaha, Toro Australia, Supercharge Batteries, RSL Life Care and Wakeford Securities.
