The students have created a hashtag #smallschoolbighearts to celebrate their school. News Of The Area visited the school and interviewed Relieving Principal Ms Michelle Crowfoot. We asked her why parents might consider a small school to send their children to. Ms Crowfoot said, “It’s a very personal thing.” “Parents are looking for the right fit for their child; it is what fits each child,” “Our school has a family atmosphere, a welcoming feel.” “The children are at the forefront of every decision we make.” We look to find the best learning fit for students.” At the school, each student is mapped individually and intricately. Individual Education Plan and students lead conferences are held every term. Given the school’s small size, they seek sponsorship opportunities to support the school’s ideas. The school is currently looking for support to maintain or build, a mobile chook pen, dirt race car track, mini digging quarry, compost bins, revamping of student picnic tables all on the drawing board ready to implement. The school also participates in the Positive Behaviour for Learning program and have taken on the values of respect, responsibility and personal best. Next term the Mount Kanwary Public School will be recognised for their water environment innovations. Supporting small schools is a great way to ensure #smallschoolbighearts can remain in the community. By Heather SHARP
