Organiser Christine Armour told News Of The Area, “I am thankful to our sponsors, RSL LifeCare, Palm Lake Resort, Lions, Estia Health, Ray White, Tea Gardens Hotel, Hawks Nest Golf Club, Tea Gardens Ferry Service and Jeff’s Quality Meats for their support.

“100% of funds raised will go to Dementia Australia,” she said.

Christine is passionate about finding a cure, dementia has touched her life through her mother and a member of the Myall Coast Tennis Club Rosemary.

Club member Rosemary’s story of dementia is one which many can relate to.She can’t even tell her own story, the dementia took that from her.

Eight years ago, Rosemary started to forget words, now she does not read or write, and can only speak a little but does not understand anything that is said. For Rosemary and others suffering from dementia simple tasks such as housekeeping, cooking, managing money, getting dressed and putting on makeup are all in the past.

Rosemary was well educated and worked as a scientist, then spent some years bringing up a family of four.

In later years Rosemary became an aquaErobics instructor teaching and supervising leaders to run classes.

Rosemary’s husband is now the only person she knows and he cares for her every day making sure she is safe and comfortable.

Rosemary is not unhappy, and still plays a bit of tennis and table tennis, goes for walks around the area, and get lots of hugs.

Music still makes Rosemary dance but her world is rapidly getting smaller.

A cure for dementia can stop anyone in the future from having to endure the deprivation of this insidious disease.

It is hoped that the event will raise over $8,000 to fund research for a cure.
