PORT Stephens Council is calling for feedback on Draft Plans of Management for its Halifax and Shoal Bay Holiday Parks. A public exhibition period began last week and continues for a period of 42 days and community information sessions are being held throughout August.

A key recommendation of the draft Halifax Holiday Park Plan of Management is to retain the adjacent Lot 424 as open space that remains available to the public.

Council’s Corporate Services Group Manager, Carmel Foster, says the Plans aim to ensure Council can meet the future needs of customers and the community.

“As a key source of non-rate revenue for Council, we are focused on planning for future visitors, building and improving services and facilities, renewing ageing infrastructure and ensuring we’re driving economic benefit into Port Stephens.

“We are constantly striving to improve all of our Holiday Parks to ensure we remain competitive within the market and are making decisions that are in the best interests of the Port Stephens community,” Ms Foster said.

In accordance with the Crown Land Management Act 2016 (CLM Act), local councils are required to prepare new Plans of Management (PoMs) under the provisions of the Local Government Act 1993 (LG Act) for Crown reserves within three years of commencement of the new legislation.

As Crown Land Managers of Halifax and Shoal Bay Holiday Parks, Council has undertaken preliminary assessments of both sites to understand key site constraints and opportunities, and identify future proposed works and appropriate approval pathways in readiness for the preparation of a new PoM under the current legislation.
