Now Raymond Terrace’s community is starting a new trend for women, with a Hen’s Shed.

Founder Elma Spaull is a retired nurse and self admits that she is getting on in years.

While out and about she was observing older people in the community and seeing some people that appeared to be left out.

Elma told News Of The Area, “We started with morning teas with just three and then five people coming along, since then we have grown and we now meet at the Lakeside Tavern.”

The Group wanted a name that was fun and inclusive and the Hen’s Shed was born.

“We are starting to get peoples’ life stories, and we are recording the life stories that are shared,” she said.

There are plenty of opportunities on the horizon for this group of Hens as the group have been offered computer classes and they would like to do up to date first aid certificates.

The Hens are also keen to work with some teenagers to improve their literacy and this program will start in August.

The group is very friendly and we welcome ladies of all ages to join us.

The next meeting will be on Wednesday 10 July at Lakeside Village Tavern Raymond Terrace at 10am.

At the meeting Kerri Rodley from Wellbeing Workshops Port Stephens will be talking about resilience.

Anyone who is interested in getting involved or visiting the Hens Shed can contact Elma Spaull on 49874850.
