Parkinson’s support group Tea Gardens conducting extraordinary meetings with Garry Boyd FEATURED Tea Gardens, Hawks Nest by NOTA - October 27, 2014 MANY people in our district who have Parkinson’s Disease (PD) may not be aware that an active support group, known as the Myall River Tea Gardens Parkinson’s Support Group, exists in this area. The objective of the Group is to organise regular meetings where anyone with a connection to PD can socialise, compare notes and help each other through companionship and information exchange. The group is linked with Parkinson’s NSW (PDNSW), the state organisation which advocates on behalf of people with PD. Locals are encouraged to join PDNSW to raise awareness of PD by reporting issues and needs so PDNSW can improve its services. Group Leader for the Myall River Tea Gardens Parkinson’s Support Group, Garry Boyd said, “These include raising funds for research, lobbying government for better support for people with PD, and providing accessible information to its membership.” “PDNSW provides a free individual telephone counselling service as well as holding periodic seminars to keep members aware of current progress and knowledge about PD,” he said. Meetings are held bi-monthly on the 1st Monday of the month except when it falls on a public holiday. The next meeting is scheduled on Monday 3rd November 2014 at 10.00 am. “New members are welcome. Please bring along your winning tips for the Melbourne Cup,” Garry told Myall Coast News. For more information contact Group Leaders Narelle Hawkes 49970609 or Garry Boyd 0404279579.
