JUST hours after closing up shop on their successful photo exhibition, held over the Queen’s Birthday weekend, members of the Myall U3A Photography Group were focusing on how they could improve for next time.

They’ll have to go some, for their latest offering held at the Hawks Nest Community Hall pulled in more than 400 people keen to see what our local photographers could produce. And they weren’t disappointed.

There were plaudits all round, from locals and visitors, regarding the high standard of the 100 plus photos on show.

One couple, New Zealanders living in Sydney, said they were “amazed at the quality of the photographs” on display.

“We’ve been coming to the area over 20 years, and we were also impressed by the variety of subject matter.”

So was Tea Gardens’ artist Dale Rosenthal, who also praised the show and picked a selection of landscapes and animal shots for special mention.

Members were encouraged to enter two photos for the monthly Set Subjects section, which included, Flora and Fauna, People, Man Made and My Passion. In addition, they could display two others in the Open section.

Exhibition organiser Deb Philipson this week said, “Feedback has been fabulous and it certainly inspires us to mount something even better for our next exhibition.”

Deb thanked group co-members Paul Mulvaney and Bob Bush for their work in staging the most challenging and successful event since the group was formed in 2016.

Myall U3A Vice President John Williams officially opened the exhibition and congratulated members’ fine efforts at putting on a bigger show that last year displayed just 60 photos.

Local Geoff Latona won the raffle prize for Deb Philipson’s framed photo ‘Sunset over the Myall’, and People’s Choice photograph ‘Are You Talking to Me’, a portrait of a pelican, was the work of group member Andrew Sillar.
