They are also proactive in cleaning up, regenerating and promoting positive environmental actions.

The first ever Fingal Forage is on its way and this is one action that will see locals come together in a fun event to make a difference.

This year World Oceans Day falls on the Saturday of the long weekend!

Sea Shelter, joined by OCCI Ocean Coastal Care Initiative, Irukandji Shark & Ray Encounters, Plastic Free Port Stephens and PSSAC Port Stephens Sailing and Aquatic Club are bringing you a fun day out at Fingal Bay for all: The Fingal Forage.

The Foraging event is on June 8 and is in recognition of World Oceans Day.

Lia Pereira of Sea Shelter told News Of The Area, “This “Amazing Race” style event sees groups (2-8 participants) completing various ocean related activities celebrating and educating this important World Oceans Day.

“This race aimed at adults and children (under adult supervision) is not so much an athletic event, more of fun day out challenging the groups mind as they encounter various predicaments racing the clock,” she said.

The event is centred next to the Surf Life Saving Club in Fingal Park, Marine Drive Fingal Bay.

Groups best prepare by bringing a smart phone/s with camera for photos and internet access, wear footwear and dress for the weather.

This event comes just a few days over a year after the containers were washed off the ship YM Efficiency and locals claim debris is still washing ashore from this catastrophic event for the Port Stephens environment.
