Of those receiving an award were students from nine local schools with some students participating and travelling from as far away as Karuah.

Each of the students was nominated for a special contribution which they have made to our community.

Lue Fagan of Irrawang High School told News Of The Area, ” Our school has been involved from the inception of this wonderful program.

‘Students are publicly recognised and acknowledged by staff or community members for acts of kindness in the community.

“It is a natural progression to talking about the Positive Behaviour for Learning program at school to Positive Behaviour for Life in the community,” she said.

Irrawang’s PBL recipient was Nick Hopper who organised the setup, packed down and refereed a PSSA knockout game.

Hunter River’s Lydia Bailey was recognised for teaching dance to younger students at Tea Gardens Public School.

Karuah’s Heidi Reynolds was awarded for showing respect, responsibility and pride in the community and her school.

Michaela Kernke of Irrawang Public School was recognised for her kindness and respect.

While Zoe Austin’s assistance with younger students at the bus stop saw her receive an award.

Salt Ash’s Blake Smith is helpful and holds the gate open for students to safely access the bus.

Patrick Eaton of Raymond Terrace Public School contributes positively to the Big Looks After Little program and he is an excellent role model in the community was well deserving of a PBL award.

Seaham’s Luke Young consistently looks out for young students welfare.

While Archy Burns was recognised for helping out at the school canteen and looking after the chickens.

The NOTA congratulates all these PBL award recipients and looks forward to the announcement of the next recipients at MarketPlace Raymond Terrace on Thursday night next week.
