This amazing trip bringing together people from all walks of life and ages ranging from 40-70 years of age. 70 year old Geoff Zipper is proving that age is no barrier and nothing is out of reach! Geoff Zipper told News Of The Area, “I have been training now for well over 12 months and walked nearly 4000km in preparation.” He walks on average 100km in training every week. “It really is great that we could offer this trip and to have such interest was phenomenal I’m really looking forward to it,” Natalie Vogtmann from iTravel Nelson Bay said. The group is doing a nine day trek across the Kokoda track with a grim weather forecast the group is expecting to be walking in the rain and climbing muddy mountains. The trek is supported by PRD Port Stephens and have set up a go fund me page to increase funds raised which will go to Jupiter a Port Stephens youth charity addressing accessibility to mental health services locally. “We love seeing the positive impacts our sponsorships have on our local community and we believe that giving back is extremely important,” said Dane Queenan from PRD Real Estate. “To know that our donation will stay in the town of a much needed service for our children is very important and we are proud to be involved,” he said. Kokoda is an extraordinary story and one of deep significance because of the war history. “The trek whether you want it to or not will impact you physically, mentally and spiritually” Sheree Gibson said.
