Dixie added an impressive 39cm to her previous best jump which secured her first place and the gold medal for the event. She also finished 5th in the 60 metre hurdles. Jack Kenny and Keira McGregor also represented the Raymond Terrace Athletics Club. Jack won silver in the U17s Javelin event with a strong 48.63 metre throw. Keira finished her very successful season with a bronze in the 100 metres with a time of 12.88 seconds. Wet weather on the second day of the Championships saw officials taking the unprecedented step of cancelling 15 events. The majority of event cancellations were due to long jump and triple jump sand pits being flooded. Unfortunately two representatives of Raymond Terrace Athletic Club were unable to contest their events due to the cancellation. Dixie’s gold medal was the finishing touch to her best season. In January 2019 she was thrilled to be selected to the NSW Little Athletics Team for the Trans Tasman Challenge event. The Trans Tasman Challenge is for athletes in the U11 and U12 age groups, from NSW and Auckland. The event was held in Auckland on 13 January, 2019. Dixie gained valuable experience in Auckland and hopes to be selected again for the event in 2020. She also competed at the NSW Country Championships which were held at Hunter Sports Centre in Newcastle on 24 to 27 January, 2019. This was Ms Conlan’s first time competing at the NSW Country Championships. Despite heatwave conditions she claimed gold in the 200 metre event and in long jump as well as a silver for the 100 metres. With the athletics season finished most athletes will be taking a well earned break. Raymond Terrace Athletics Club will hold an Annual Presentation of Club Awards at 4.00pm on 5 May, 2019 at Raymond Terrace Bowling Club. By Liz MUDD
