Ballina Detectives are reappealing for witnesses to an aircraft crash in the State’s Far North last week, after the pilot died in hospital last night.

About 9am (Monday 6 October 2014), emergency services were called to a property on Martins Lane, Knockrow, following reports that a small aircraft had crashed.

Police from Richmond Local Area Command have been told that the ultra light aircraft appeared to stall before crashing to the ground.

The pilot, a 73-year-old Ballina man, sustained multiple injuries. He was the sole occupant of the plane.

He was transported to Gold Coast Hospital where he died last night (Monday 13 October 2014).

Investigators from Recreational Aviation Australia were notified and continue their enquiries to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the crash.

Police will prepare a report for the Coroner.

Investigators have received conflicting information to date and continue to appeal for further witnesses to come forward.
