NSW Police are reminding the public that officers will be out in force as big crowds are expected at the rugby league finals over the weekend.

Operation Hammerhead, the ongoing statewide high-visibility policing operation, will be focusing its attention at the stadium and public transport hubs.

Commander of Operation Hammerhead, Assistant Commissioner Mick Fuller said spectators going to the games this weekend will see an increased police presence as they go to and from the games.

“But let me make this very clear. While we want everyone to enjoy themselves we will not tolerate acts of stupidity from anyone.”

“We will use a range of officers and squads during the operation that are available at all times of the day and night.”

“General duties police, as well as specialist commands, will be deployed to ensure those going to the rugby league finals can do so with confidence and enjoy themselves.

“The focus of Operation Hammerhead is to patrol iconic locations such as the Harbour and its surrounding foreshores as well as sporting fixtures and other large scale public events,” Assistant Commissioner Fuller said.

“Those going to the games this weekend will see police on public transport and outside as well as inside the stadium.

“We work closely with the management of the stadium and a range of government agencies to strike the right balance between effective security and an enjoyable event with minimal spectator disruption.

“Our aim is to provide and maintain high levels of public safety to give all NSW residents the confidence to go about their day-to-day business.”

‘We will have out in force General Duties, Police Transport Command, the Dog Squad, Operational Support Group officers, Public Order and Riot Squad Officers, Traffic and Highway Patrol, and Mounted Units,” Assistant Commissioner Fuller said.

Fans driving to the game should allow plenty of additional travel time and pre-book their parking. The best way to enter the car parks is via Silverwater Road and Holker Street.

Extra trains and buses will be running to Sydney Olympic Park for this weekend’s NRL Preliminary Finals.
