Monday 17th September was the first day of play for our 3 teams entered in the NDWBA Spring Carnival. While our teams headed down the highway to bowl in Newcastle our club played host to 12 teams, 48 bowlers from the district. Thanks to all our members who helped out on the day and to Karen Green for Umpiring. Tuesday 18th September, social bowls played 2 games of 2 bowls Triples 18 ends, a game of 3 bowls Pairs 18 ends. Ingrid Luck, Judi Polak and Bev Dunn played a Singles game 4 bowls, 10 ends each taking a turn to be a Marker. Beverly Thrift, Christine Fossey and Jill McBride led all the way against Carolyn Bywater, Lily Smith and Dawn Jones winning 22 v 11. A good win For Lyn Nightingale and Lynda Richards 22 v Jean Glover and Dawn May 9. A close game on Rink 4 Dorothy Thompson, Sheril Johnson and Sandra Leisemann winning by 1 shot against Pam Gilchrist, Bev Rhodes and Wendy Brand, 16 v 15. Winners on the day were Jill McBride’s ladies decided by drawing a card. The lucky winner of the voucher for the Myall Bistro and Café was Lyn Nightingale. On Thursday 20th September, bowls was cancelled due to rain this was unfortunate as we had a visitation of bowlers from Lake Cathie. The ladies enjoyed morning tea and raffles instead of bowling. Birthday greetings to Kathie Rimmer. Thankfully the weather improved and the bowlers from Lake Cathie joined us on Friday 21st September for the annual “Kneelers and Grippers” day which raises money for Brighter Futures. Well done to TGMBC for organising this day I believe they raised $3000.00 for this foundation. Mixed results from our teams who competed in the District Carnival, 60 teams entered this Carnival. Format 5 games of Fours, 18 ends played over 3 days, a lot of bowling and a lot of travelling for our bowlers. Ingrid Luck, Bev Stephens, Bette Saillard and Dale Winter won 2 of their games. Jeanette Emmett, Lynda Richards, Lynne Green and Karen McPhie won 1 game. Congratulations go to Maynie Roberts, Anastasia Koutsellis (from Terrigal WBC), Lorraine Murphy and Kayelene Pearson who not only received the prize money for Wednesday’s Best Performed Team but came 3rd overall, winning $1,000.00. Great bowling ladies, a wonderful achievement. TGWBC are very proud of you all. A “pat on the back” as well to Robyn Beaumont who competed in the Inaugural Sawtell Ladies Master Singles, on the 15th-16th September. Format 5 games of 25 shots up, meaning Robyn played 80 ends on Saturday and 50 ends on Sunday, a lot of bowling. Robyn finished with 4 wins and a 1 loss. The game she lost was to the overall winner of this Competition and Robyn only went down by 3 shots. Coming events: 27th September Ruth Bowden annual Trophy Day, (Karuah v Tea Gardens). 28th September District Versatility Day and the final of the Open Consistency Competition between Maynie Roberts and Robyn Beaumont on the 4th October.
