The ‘Brekkie Club’ started ten years ago, by the first School Chaplin Sharon Tolcher, and carried on by the current School Chaplin, Brenton Pobjie, as they recognised the needs of the children of Irrawang Public School. Bakers Delight in Raymond Terrace graciously supplies the bread, and Leanne and Kent Sansom from Raymond Terrace Community Church have been generously financing Brekkie Club for many years. Thou-Walla Family Centre, on the grounds of Irrawang Public School. provides the best possible place to run Brekkie Club and the staff there are always willing to lend a hand. Dianne Clarke from Raymond Terrace Community Church is the organiser of the Brekkie Club, and it is run as a partnership between Irrawang Public School, Thou-Walla Family Centre and Raymond Terrace Community Church. Dianne said, “To volunteer at Brekkie Club, all you need is to love kids and like to sit and talk with them.” “You also need to be able to make toast, pour juice and like to smile. “Some need a hello and a cup of Milo, some need a smile and someone to listen to their stories, but they all need big people to care about them,” she said. “Anyone is welcome come down to Thou-Walla to talk about volunteering,” she added. Each day there is a different team of volunteers who give up their time to help Dianne to provide breakfast for the students of Irrawang Public School. Irrawang Public School staff, students and families are very grateful to Aileen Devereux, Keith Humphries, Leonie Gilbert, Frank Luton, Robyn Lyons, Michelle Bryan and Sandra Carroll for making sure this important service continues. Volunteers chatting to the students as they select some breakfast.
