The students and staff have been led by a number of outstanding principals over our 50 years; but at this mark of celebration they are proudly led by Principal Stacy Mathieson. Along with 50 years of the school, we also celebrate 50 years of the Irrawang Public School Parents and Citizens Association. Throughout the years, the school has witnessed a great deal of change, not only in numbers but with the introduction of the DET Preschool in 2004, which runs 5 days per week and currently has some of the best teachers and SLSO’s available. They have also witnessed the beginning of an amazing community minded team at Thou Walla which is currently lead by Gina Ascott-Evans. Thou Walla runs a variety of programs such as supportive playgroups, parenting programs, early literacy, transition to school, adult learning and early intervention support. Changes in staff and students are inevitable, however people who have passed through the gates at Irrawang Public have always left with a lasting memory. This was witnessed with the number of Facebook posts and memories discussed when the school announced their 50th Anniversary Fete. Past students were more than happy to share their experiences and photos they have kept over the years, all of which will be displayed at our fete in October. Principal of Irrawang Public School, Stacy Mathieson, told News of The Area, “Irrawang Public School is proud of our past 50 years excelling in creative and performing arts which includes winning the School Band Championships 6 years in a row in the mid 70’s, sports, excelling in academics and developing our foothold in the community.” “This year in October we will be marking this very special occasion by holding our 50th Anniversary Fete, to take place on Friday October 19, starting at 2pm.” “There will be rides, market stalls, a haunted house, special performances, special guests and a museum showcasing the history of our great school, so we hope to see you there,” she said.
