Unfortunately Motor Neurone Disease in Steven’s case is terminal.

Steven was a local carpenter and builder who has worked in the Bay area for over 25 years.

He has also been an active member of Nelson Bay Junior Rugby League club for 7 years.

He was out there marking out fields, prepping grounds and on the BBQ every Saturday at home games for the local club.

Megan Harding Director of Care For You at Home told News Of The Area, “Steven has had to stop work as he now can barely walk or stand and suffers from frequent falls, he has been provided with an electric wheelchair by the NDIS, while Steven can still talk at this stage, he has just started having some swallowing difficulties and recently had a feeding tube inserted.”

His wife Jackie has had to go back to work to support the family.

“The NDIS funds Stevens’ personal cares but Jackie has had to go to work to pay the rent and put food on the table for eight kids robbing her of valuable time left with Steven,” she said.

Steven’s dad played and coached Parramatta Eels in his day and Steven also played junior league for Parramatta Eels.
Care For You At Home is organising a fundraiser to support Steven.

Included in the prizes for the fundraiser are a one of a kind original artwork of three Rugby League legends of the Parramatta Eels Club, personally autographed by Peter Sterling, Brett Kenny, and Ray Price.

Raffle tickets are available to raise money to help Jackie support her family and Steven.

Tickets are on sale at Shoal Bay Pharmacy, through the Junior Rugby League club, Soldiers Point Bowling Club, and at the offices at Care for You at Home.

The raffle will be drawn on 21 December.
