Seven cyclists are about to head off from Evans Head for a 1,000 kilometre trek finishing at the Dandaloo Hotel in Kanahooka to raise funds for the i98FM Illawarra Convoy.

Along the way they’ll stop off in Bulahdelah on Wednesday 29 August for a much need rest and dinner at the Bulahdelah Bowling Club.

The marathon was the brainchild of Bianca Starcic, “We are always trying to think of new ways to get people involved with the Convoy, and we have a team of amazing riders who have been fundraising leading up to the event.”

“The idea began as a ride from Newcastle to Sydney and eventually with lots of discussion, turned into a ride from Evans Head to the Dandaloo Hotel,” said Bianca.

Riding 1,000 kilometres over seven days is certainly a gruelling task, but the riders are taking inspiration from the children and families who are doing it extremely tough due to life threatening medical conditions.

“It is children and families like these, that funds raised during the i98FM Illawarra Convoy support, through the Illawarra Community Foundation’s funding process,” Bianca said.

The Illawarra Convoy is now in its 13th year and sees hundreds of trucks and bikes travel in convoy raising funds for the local community.

Last year it raised nearly $2 million.

Bianca Starcic is confident her team will go a long way to adding to the total this year.
