Having taken on the mammoth task of raising funds to purchase special mattresses for the patients earlier this year, the Bulahdelah Hospital Auxiliary has been overwhelmed by the support their project has received.

With a recent donation of $2,400 from the Bulahdelah Lions Club, the Auxiliary has now accumulated enough funding to purchase four mattresses costing over $2,200 each.

Lions Club President Arthur Baker said they donated the funds after they became aware of the need.

“Lions is all about helping others,” he said.

“Our community is getting older and more and more people are needing help to stay in their own homes. These mattresses will help make it more comfortable for them.”

Along with comfort, the portable mattresses also provide relief from pressure, reducing the potential for further health complications.

Auxiliary President Irene Worth said they are very grateful for the generous donations they have received.

“We have had several outstanding donations from organisations including the Pearls of Port Stephens and the Bulahdelah Lions,” she said.

“Additional amounts have been raised through fundraising activities and some very generous donations from individuals.”

Irene said the mattresses will be used by palliative care patients throughout the entire Myall Coast region.
