FORTY netball players took the opportunity to enhance their skills and learn from one of the best in the business last Monday night when GWS (Greater Western Sydney) and Australian Fast Five Representative Sam Poolman conducted one of her “Aspire Netball Clinics” at the Medowie Netball courts.

The Hunter Academy of Sport graduate is a great example and inspiration for the local netball community in that Sam has been a trailblazer in her chosen sport on a journey that began right here.

From the age of 12, Sam progressed through the representative levels to earn selection into the NSW state team and eventually Australian junior national teams whilst being based in the Newcastle area.

A career in the Suncorp Super Netball League beckoned with Sam spending four years with the Adelaide Thunderbirds before making a move closer to home with the GWS Giants in Sydney.

However, it was clear to Sam that something had to be done to help young and talented netball players from the Hunter region to reach the highs that she had, after all, she is the only player in the Suncorp Super Netball League that originates from the Newcastle area.

After this epiphany, Sam’s “Aspire Netball Clinics” became a reality.

These clinics are designed to provide a range of programs for different ages and skills levels with a focus on helping the next generation of local players to develop the skills necessary to pursue a future in Netball.

And the timing couldn’t have been better for the Medowie players.

“Getting the opportunity to learn off such an influential player like Sam has been a great opportunity.” Under 13’s player Lily Foster told News Of The Area.

“Especially as we head into the finals.”

Sam ran two clinics with our Medowie Netballers, a junior and senior session, both of which were run at capacity and received extremely well by all in attendance.
