Not only does the Yacabba Street extension improve traffic flow for the township but the works provides a wonderful greenspace linking the township to the waterfront.

The delivery has taken around one year from the time the old building was demolished to the finally manicured laws and landscaped gardens being ready for community use.

Port Stephens Councils General Manager for Service Development Tim Crosdale opened the formalities, with Mayor Ryan Palmer recognising the number of years that the project has been on the books for many years.

Mayor Ryan Palmer told News Of The Area, “The project is part of the Nelson Bay Next council project which is about revitalising CBD’s throughout Port Stephens.”

He believes it will be a great space for markets.

“The project is a $1.85 million dollar investment in the town centre, creating a community space for everyone to enjoy,” he said.

Mark Craven of Daracon who were contracted to deliver the extension told News Of The Area, “It has been a unique project for us, not just roads and drains but delivering a green space facility that will last for the community for years.”

The team from Nelson Bay Now are pleased to see the street opened and the realisation of the vision which has provided an integrated solution with green space, lighting and seating.

Council is currently developing the first public domain plan for Nelson Bay, which is reimagining how our beautiful seaside town will look and feel.

The Yacabba Street extension is a positive start to the revitalisation of the town centre.

Nelson Bay residents and visitors are sure to appreciate the change especially during the busy holiday season where the access should improve traffic congestion.
