It’s run by a dedicated group of volunteers. “The lady who was here this morning had a new baby and she borrowed one of these bumbos,” Lissa Macilquham said. “She said it saved her $100.” “The beauty of the Toy Library is that borrowers can save money because they’re not having to buy toys that may only be used for short time before the child outgrows them,” Lissa said. “It works for Grandparents too,” said Leonie Keipert. “We may not see our grandchildren for 6 months and the next time they visit they are into something different.” “We have toys from three months to 99 years of age,” Lissa added. “We have games and puzzles that are very good for dementia patients.” “We really want to encourage more carers of dementia patients to come and see what we have to offer.” Young Lewie and his brother Dylan are regular users thanks to their mum Cassie. “The beauty of the Toy Library is that it also teaches the children to share.” The Toy Library is a not for profit organisation and the four volunteers who were giving their time last Thursday were all former teachers. The Library is a virtual Aladdin’s cave for children and a cost saving measure for parents, grandparents and carers. New members are always encouraged to join for a small annual fee and you’ll find the Toy Library in the Uniting Church Hall at 120 Myall Street, Tea Gardens. It’s open every first Thursday of the month and every third Monday of each month from 9am until midday.
